The Peoples Garden

Grass roots community gardens were popular in the past and today some communities continue to have them. The Van Buren Farm Service Agency is partnering with other groups in Van Buren County to develop small plots where vegetables may be grown. Harvested food will be donated to the food pantries here in the County.

Van Buren Butterfly Garden - will be located at the County Engineer's office on Hwy 1.

USDA Teaching Garden - behind the FSA/NRCS building on Franklin Street. Will be variety of grasses, legumes that are used in CRP plots.

Country Lanes - have six vegetable plots with proceeds being used by the renters.

Good Samaritan - FFA students are assisting in this vegetable garden where the produce will be used at the nursing home and at Heavenly Hands food pantry.

Healthy Villages - vegetable garden on First Street, several members of Healthy Villages will be planting there. Proceeds will go to the Heavenly Hands or Bonaparte Food Pantry.

Harlan Healthy Garden - the Noel Harlan Family will be planting extra in their family garden to donate to the local food pantries.

Douds PTO Garden - they are planning on planting a vegetable garden to assist some families in Douds.

Stockport - have a youth group lined up to do a community vegetable garden.
